Weekly Wanderings {2017, week 7}

My wanderings around my world this week started with…

Eating waffles and talking tech with fellow nerdgals at a Girl Develop It meetup.

An awesome start to the week.

Bacon and blue cheese waffle

… and then I went home and reheated waffles from our freezer, then topped them with fried eggs and bacon. Because Son wanted waffles too. πŸ˜…

Got The Pho Cookbook last week, so this week it’s time to make some pho!

Pho in the pressure cooker

Went for a walk on Valentine’s Day. Tried to take a photo of some pretty flowers. Instead got Son photobombing my photo. 😏

Son photobombing my photo

… got the photo of the flowers anyways.

Our aloe plant has gotten to be quite plump!

Sprouted palm tree seeds look like little pink bugs.

Deceptively calm rain on leaves.

Meanwhile, I nearly got blown away (and definitely got soaked) on my walk home.

Current dinner: spinach + chickpeas + eggs, and then add radish kimchi. Super easy, oh so healthy, and really really tasty.

Weekly Wanderings {2017 week 6}

My wanderings around my world this week started with…

Roasting potatoes.

Cake layers

Dips, chips, and the Super Bowl!

White garlic pizza dip

You know it’s all about the food here. Potato pinto bean tacos, and short rib tacos. Both were excellent, but the potato ones were my favorite.

That feel when you make something that looks really challenging and it turns out AMAZINGLY.

Raspberry chocolate mousse cake

Best part of our Super Bowl party was this pup that snuggled in my lap the entire time. Do you think anyone would notice if I hide her away until everybody leaves? πŸ€”πŸ˜

(Breakfast) taco Tuesday!

Time to make ALL THE PHO.

Kimchi sandwich… with shortribs. πŸ˜‰

Found a new-to-us restaurant when the other restaurant we wanted to go to was waaaaay too packed. Now obsessed with this khao soi. It’s so good I was literally slurping the last bits of curry soup out of the bowl after I had eaten everything else…

Weekly Wanderings {2017 week 5}

My wanderings around my world this week started with…

Lots of cooking.

Blueberry muffins

Lots of recipes that will be coming to Fridgg soon(ish)!

Blueberry muffin

New Year’s flowers. Late afternoon light.

Butterrrrr chicken.

Pretty hand pies. Guess which holiday they’re for? πŸ˜‰

Hand pies

Made an extra hand pie with the pie crust scraps. Ugly as heck, but still tasted great!

One of the walls in our house is pink. Drives me nuts, but it makes for a good photo background every now and then.

Strawberry coconut popsicle

The best part of making all those recipes for Fridgg… is getting to eat all the leftovers. 😁

Hand pies

Roasting. My house smells yummy.

Roasted tomatoes

Work in progress. I may or may not have licked the bowl clean after making the mousse.

Raspberry mousse

Messy kitchen.

Weekly Wanderings {2017 week 4}

My wanderings around my world this week started with…

And rainbows!

Melting chocolate.

To make homemade samoas!

Yes, I know they’re ugly AF.

Homemade samoas

Burger date!

I was so chilled to the bone after walking home late at night that I went and sat on top of the heater vent in order to warm up.

Just like I used to when I was a kid.

It still works wonderfully.

Sitting on the heater

Getting my food styling on.

These mini berry tartlets were tasty.

Weekly Wanderings {2017 week 3}

My wanderings around my world this third week of 2017 started with…

Remembering my dad on the one-year anniversary of his passing.

Apple fritter

We got new bowls. They’re perfect for bibimbaps!

Buy a bunch of sashimi (and inari, obvs), and take it home to eat. Better (and cheaper!) than going to a sushi restaurant.

What’s cookin’?

… you’ll see this week!

Cooking liquid

Wingin’ it.

Every year, for as long as we’ve lived together, we stay up late on January nights and watch the Australian Open.

Yes, that is a drawer overstuffed with fluffy socks.

Son: *glances at my computer screen* “Oh, that looks familiar!”
Me: “From when you did your master’s?”
Son: “No, more recent. I think it was in one of the robotics courses I took online.”
Me, excited: “Oh! …they use softmax?”
Son: “No… I think it’s that big ‘E’ and everything…”
Me: “So… math. You’re saying it looks familiar because it’s math.” *laugh-crying*

Neural Networks

Fish and fries were meh. Lobster roll was, sadly, meh. But that clam chowder… was so good we bought two more bowls of it to go.

But the best part of lunch was getting to see all the people with signs and pink hats getting off the Metro Rail all the way down in Long Beach, after the LA Women’s March.

Somebody had their eye on my food.

Fly away!
